A Guardian Ad Litem’s primary role
is to represent the best interest of the child. A thorough investigation of the
circumstances of the child is conducted through interviewing the child and
observing them with each parent, guardian or physical custodian, conducting
home visits, contacting persons significantly affecting or having relevant
knowledge of the child’s life, gathering information, and examining
records. With this, the Guardian Ad
Litem is then able to responsibly provide the court with pertinent
information and an informed recommendation as to the child’s best interest.
A Guardian Ad Litem will
actively participate in all court hearings related to their appointment,
monitor court orders to ensure compliance and file motions, and other
pleadings as appropriate under the applicable rules of procedure.
